Hey Alexa, What are You and Why Should I Care?

Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service available on hundreds of millions of devices from Amazon and third-party device manufacturers. With Alexa, you can build natural voice experiences that offer a more intuitive way to interact with the technology people can use every day. Amazon Alexa, also known simply as Alexa, is a virtual assistant AI technology developed by Amazon, first used in the Amazon Echo smart speakers developed by Amazon in 2014.

There is no there is no fee for using Alexa. Once you own the device, you own Alexa and you can use the Alexa App to set her up however you prefer. Amazon’s Alexa is a device that strictly revolves around Wi-Fi to access everything from Google to various music-streaming services.

Alexa comes down to the simple fact that it can make your life easier. Now there are thousands of “Alexa Skills” and devices that work with Alexa that can do everything from play music to control your smart thermostat and smart lighting.

One of the things we like about this Alexa is the Flash Briefings. Flash briefings are a subset of Amazon Alexa skills (skills are essentially “apps” for your Amazon smart speaker). They are audio pieces that are usually topical and ephemeral, and almost always short — just a minute or two in duration. They can be very newsy, like those from ESPN and CNN. But they can also provide you with inspirational quotes, jokes, historical notes, finance tips, random facts, etc.

In the days ahead StreamingChurch.tv will be launching an exciting new product for churches and ministries related to Alexa. Tune in to our CHURCH SOLUTIONS PODCAST on 2-25 for the special announcement about this inspirational, ground breaking tool!
